About the Pinaka Rocket System
- Pinaka is an indigenously developed multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) system of India.
- It was originally designed as an area-saturation weapon and has now evolved into a precision-guided strike system.
- Variants include:
- Pinaka Mk-I (~40 km)
- Pinaka Mk-I Enhanced (~45 km)
- Pinaka Mk-II (~75 km)
-
- Pinaka LRGR (Guided) (up to 120 km)
Strategic Significance
- Guided Pinaka rockets reduce dependence on imported long-range artillery systems.
- Supports Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence manufacturing.
- Improves stand-off strike capability, allowing forces to hit targets deep inside enemy territory with precision.
- Complements other long-range systems like BrahMos (missile) by filling the artillery-rocket domain gap.
